Molly Peterson

Mrs. Molly Peterson

Hi I'm Molly Peterson.  I teach K-5 classroom music at Roundy Elementary and I am the 9-12 Vocal Music Director at the High School.  This is my 22nd year teaching music, my 3rd year at Columbus.

In my classroom, I try to make music something that is fun and approachable for all students.  We play a lot of games and do a lot of hands on activities to help learn the language of music.  In addition, we spend a couple of months in each grade preparing for a program/performance.  I don't do concerts at the elementary level, we do little mini musicals where each child can have an opportunity to spread their wings and try something new.

In choir I like to expose students to music of many genres.  Currently our choir is small and we are singing 3 part music (SAB) but 2nd semester we are going to begin attempting 3 part music (SATB).  They are a fun group, willing to try anything I ask!

I grew up in Wadena, Minnesota.  I attended the University of Minnesota-Morris where I received a B.A. in Vocal and Classroom Music Education and a Minor in Speech Communications.  College is where I met my husband. Although he was an English and Political Science Major, he sang in the choir and took other music classes.

My family lives in Wapello where my husband, Mike Peterson, is the Superintendent of Wapello and also of Morning Sun Schools.  I have 2 children.  Maggie is a senior and Matthew is in 8th grade.

In my free time, wait, is there such a thing with 2 kids in school activities?  No, seriously, in addition to attending all of the events our children are involved in, I like to read, go to plays, go to movies, make videos of events and do digital scrapbooking.

Feel free to stop in and visit the music classrooms at any time, we'd love to have you.  Also, if you are on Facebook, look for Roundy Elementary Music where you can follow what we are doing in the classroom and Columbus Community High School Choir where you can see what we are doing in the choir.
